"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!

Maybe a little touchy Though I honestly believe that if you posted where you get the original images from or at least stated that they were used with permission, you would have a lot less problems
I personally think if you have altered someone's image and then post it, you should at least publicly credit them (Think of it sort of like, you are using their stock !) Anyway, I think that is why you are getting hassled so much ;o Plus if people could see what the original images looked like, they would probably be more inclined to believe the amount of work you've put in

Ask me for just one [link], and you will see where the original pic comes from...
You can't ask for a permission because the pic is lost in the web... where you find the pic, it's not the author....
